In India, doctors in government hospitals across several states go on a strike to protest the rape and murder of a young doctor in West Bengal. The 31-year-old resident doctor’s brutalised body was found in a state hospital in Kolkata. The police have arrested a civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy, in connection with the crime and the government has removed hospital superintendent Sanjay Vashisth. The principal of the medical college, where the incident took place has also submitted his resignation. His removal was one of the various demands by agitating doctors. Protesting doctors also announced that they would suspend emergency services as well from today.
