Scientists have found mosquitoes in Iceland for the first time, breaking its long mosquito-free record shared with Antarctica. Three specimens — two females and one male — were discovered in a glacial valley near Reykjavík. Experts say Iceland’s rapid warming, nearly four times faster than the northern hemisphere average, may have created conditions for its survival. The species, Culiseta annulata, is cold-tolerant and widespread across Europe and Asia. There is no evidence of breeding yet, but monitoring will continue in spring. The discovery signals how rising temperatures are shifting ecosystems — even in Earth’s coldest, once-untouched regions. Firstpost | World News | News Live | Vantage | Palki Sharma | News
