China has imposed broad restrictions on rare earth exports, adding new strain to its trade confrontation with the United States. These essential minerals, used in smartphones, electric vehicles, and military systems, are vital for global industries. With China controlling nearly all refining of key elements such as dysprosium, the new measures tighten its grip on the supply chain. The policy blocks the export of advanced processing methods, limits the sale of equipment overseas, and even curbs travel by Chinese experts. While Beijing cites security concerns, the move comes just before high-level trade discussions with President Trump. After Washington’s semiconductor strategy, China is now using rare earths to gain leverage. India, which relies heavily on these imports, is responding with a seven thousand three hundred crore plan to expand local magnet manufacturing. As nations race to secure access to critical materials, China’s influence over the rare earth market remains a powerful strategic advantage.
