A 33-year-old lecturer, the mother of a 4-year-old, in India has died from complications after an organ transplant surgery. Archana Kamath had donated a part of her liver to a relative. While organ transplantation comes with physical and emotional risks, women bear the majority of the burden. In India, 80% of all living donors are women. Meanwhile, 80% of all organ recipients are men. This is a global trend as well. 60% of all kidney donors are women the world over. But 65% of all kidney recipients are men.
