On October 8, close to three thousand flights were delayed across the United States, marking the third day of widespread disruptions as the federal shutdown stretches into its second week. Earlier in the week, more than ten thousand delays were logged. Essential staff like air traffic controllers and airport security personnel are working without pay, causing shortages and slower operations. Some control towers, including those in Hollywood Burbank and Nashville, briefly closed, while major airports in Chicago, Dallas, and Newark also faced challenges. The FAA insists passenger safety is not at risk, but strain on the nation’s air travel system is steadily increasing.
