Typhoon Kalmaegi has become the deadliest storm in the Philippines this year, claiming at least 142 lives and leaving 127 people unaccounted for. The powerful typhoon caused severe flooding in central regions, with Cebu experiencing the most destruction. More than 500,000 residents have been forced to flee their homes as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared a national disaster, unlocking emergency resources. Rainfall during the storm was estimated to be 1.5 times above the typical November levels. Now moving over the South China Sea, Kalmaegi is gaining strength again as Vietnam and Thailand prepare for its arrival, with evacuation orders and warnings about extreme weather conditions being issued.
