India’s homegrown dog breeds are now becoming a vital part of the nation’s security forces. Once replaced by foreign breeds like German Shepherds and Labradors, Indian dogs such as the Rampur Hound and Mudhol Hound are receiving training for patrol, rescue, and counter insurgency operations. This development comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal in 2020 to promote self reliance in dog units, recognising their ability to thrive in Indian conditions. These native breeds now serve shoulder to shoulder with the army, representing true Indian strength and loyalty.
