Airbus has surpassed Boeing to take the lead as the world’s top jet producer, with its A320 series reaching 12,260 deliveries since its launch in 1988. This marks the first time it has overtaken Boeing’s 737, as the two manufacturers together have built close to 25,000 single aisle aircraft. Airbus is accelerating output with a goal of 820 deliveries in the current year and expanding assembly operations in the United States and China. Boeing continues to struggle with safety issues following the 737 MAX crisis, a mid air incident in 2024, the Air India crash, and ongoing financial and policy challenges.
