Xiaomi is set to reveal its second electric vehicle (EV), the SU7 Ultra, at its Xiaomi 15 event in China on 29th October. Following the earlier release of the standard SU7 model, the Ultra version promises high-end performance and cutting-edge technology. With pre-orders already open in China, the SU7 Ultra aims to impress with its remarkable speed and advanced engineering.
The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is being positioned as a premium electric vehicle, competing with heavyweights like the Tesla Model S Plaid.
Aimed at the premium segment
While Xiaomi hasn’t yet disclosed the official price, industry insiders speculate it could cost around CNY 800,000 (roughly Rs 95 lakh). This price would place it significantly above the standard SU7 model, which starts at CNY 215,900 (around Rs 25 lakh).
The production version of the SU7 Ultra is expected to retain most of the specifications showcased in its prototype, which was revealed a few months back. However, while the prototype featured a carbon fibre body, the final version will opt for more cost-efficient materials to keep the price in check.
Top-notch drive train, top-notch power
Xiaomi has packed the SU7 Ultra with a powerful triple HyperEngine motor setup. This includes two V8s motors and one V6s motor, strategically placed across the front and rear wheels to deliver optimal performance. Together, the motors generate a whopping 1,548 horsepower and 635 Nm of torque. Xiaomi claims the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 1.97 seconds, making it one of the fastest electric cars in the world. It can reach 200 kmph in 5.96 seconds, and an incredible 300 kmph in 15.07 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 350 kmph.
To maintain stability at these extreme speeds, the car provides a maximum downforce of 2,145 kg. This focus on high-speed performance hints at Xiaomi’s ambition to dominate the luxury EV segment.
A key feature of the SU7 Ultra is its Qilin II battery pack, developed by CATL. Using cell-to-body (CTB) technology, the 150 kWh battery is integrated directly into the vehicle’s structure, improving both weight distribution and stability. The battery can achieve a peak output of 1,330 kW and maintain 800 kW output even at 20 per cent charge. The SU7 Ultra also supports a 5.2C charging multiplier, enabling the battery to charge fully in under 12 minutes.
Xioami’s calculated move to limit availability outside China
While the standard SU7 was showcased in India, Xiaomi never brought the vehicle to market, and the same may happen with the SU7 Ultra. Xiaomi seems focused on China for now, with no confirmed plans to expand its EV offerings to India.
In addition to the SU7 Ultra launch, Xiaomi will unveil its new Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro smartphones. However, only the standard Xiaomi 15 is expected to make its way to Indian markets. As Xiaomi continues to expand its footprint in the EV space, all eyes will be on the SU7 Ultra to see if it can deliver on its bold promises and compete with the established giants of the electric vehicle world.
