US-India launch first joint cybersecurity initiative, will secure IT connections

In a significant move to bolster IT ties between the United States and India, the US Consulate Mumbai, in partnership with the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA), unveiled the first-ever US-India Cyber Security Initiative. This initiative, announced by US Consul General Mike Hankey during his presence at the MCCIA Pune Business International Business Summit, aims to bring together top cyber security experts globally to create job opportunities and develop cutting-edge solutions.

Hankey highlighted the initiative’s objective of establishing a mentorship model in cyberspace, fostering people-to-people connections, and addressing the growing challenges in the digital realm. He stressed the timely nature of the launch, underscoring the rapid advancements in digital technologies that necessitate enhanced cybersecurity measures.

Emphasizing the critical role of secure and resilient cyberspace in driving both public and private sector development, Hankey reiterated that cybersecurity is a top priority in the US-India bilateral relationship. He pointed out the need for minimizing cybersecurity threats to ensure that the digital revolution promotes global prosperity and stability.

Addressing the media post-event, Hankey reiterated the significance of the Cybersecurity Initiative in strengthening collaboration between the US and India, while also highlighting the economic and social benefits it offers worldwide. He outlined the centre’s mission to collaborate with various stakeholders to bolster cyber defences, enhance infrastructure, and safeguard sensitive information.

Expressing pride in the partnership with MCCIA, Hankey concluded by emphasizing the shared vision of building secure and prosperous IT connections between the two countries. MCCIA Director General Prashant Girbane echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the strategic importance of the initiative for citizens, businesses, and governments alike.

In his summit address, Hankey underscored the remarkable transformations unfolding in various domains including artificial intelligence, telecommunications, emerging technologies, bioengineering, and energy, emphasizing the need for heightened cybersecurity measures in response to these developments.
