Tesla recalls Cybertruck for the 5th time in less than a year, this time over fault in rear camera wiring

Tesla has issued yet another recall for its much-anticipated Cybertruck, marking the fifth time in less than a year that the electric vehicle has faced issues.

This time, the recall affected over 27,000 Cybertrucks, with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) flagging a problem with the rear-view camera. The camera’s image is delayed, failing to meet the legal requirement of displaying what’s behind the vehicle within two seconds, which poses a potential safety risk.

Camera delay issue

The problem stems from a software glitch, according to reports. Some Cybertrucks were not shutting down properly before restarting, which caused a delay in the rear-view camera display of up to eight seconds.

Although no accidents or injuries have been linked to the issue so far, the delay is concerning as it significantly increases the risk of a crash. Tesla plans to address the glitch through a software update to resolve the camera display issue.

This latest recall adds to a series of problems for the Cybertruck, which has struggled with a variety of technical and safety issues since its release. Despite being highly anticipated, Tesla’s angular electric truck has faced numerous setbacks, raising eyebrows about its overall reliability.

Cybertruck’s many recalls

The Cybertruck’s troubles began earlier this year, with Tesla announcing delays in delivery due to problems with the vehicle’s accelerator. This eventually led to a recall in April when several models were found to have sticky accelerator pedals, forcing Tesla to address the issue.
