Tesla goes on a hiring spree as it begins to ramp up production of Optimus humanoid robot

Tesla is significantly ramping up its recruitment efforts as it gears up for the large-scale production of its Optimus humanoid robot, also known as the Tesla Bot. Job postings for various manufacturing positions have recently appeared on Tesla’s career page and were highlighted by @SawyerMerritt on X.  

The post was soon retweeted by Elon Musk himself, further drawing attention to the company’s hiring spree. These roles are primarily based at Tesla’s facility in Fremont, California, and reflect the company’s commitment to pushing Optimus into mass production.

Massive hiring drive for Optimus manufacturing roles

The job listings confirm that Tesla is actively seeking to fill multiple roles, including positions like Manufacturing Engineering Technician, Production Supervisor, and Process Engineer. All these roles are directly tied to the production of the Optimus robot. A separate post on LinkedIn by Karissa Thein, a senior recruiter at Tesla, also shed light on the scale of the hiring drive. She stated that her team is focused on turning the Tesla Bot concept into a reality, with production efforts centred in Tesla’s Fremont factory. The post emphasised that Tesla is seeking engineers who can tackle the challenge of scaling up production for this innovative product.

Tesla Bot: A cornerstone of the company’s future vision

The Optimus humanoid robot was first unveiled in 2021 during Tesla’s AI Day. Since then, Elon Musk has repeatedly highlighted the robot as one of Tesla’s most important future products. Musk, during the AI Day event in 2024, reiterated this point by stating that Optimus could become “the most significant product ever created.” Tesla has since showcased several iterations of the robot, demonstrating its ability to walk, carry objects, and interact with humans.

Tesla has leveraged its expertise in self-driving technology to enhance the bot’s capabilities. At the most recent showcase event in October 2024, Musk claimed that the Tesla Bot had become capable of handling a wide range of tasks. According to him, Optimus can now walk your dog, babysit, mow the lawn, and even serve drinks, demonstrating virtually limitless potential. He also hinted that the robot’s commercial release could be imminent, with its price expected to fall between $20,000 and $30,000.

In addition to Optimus-related roles, Musk has also been hiring for other ambitious projects. Last month, he made a public call for “hardcore” software engineers to join his Everything app project. Musk clarified that he is not concerned about candidates’ educational backgrounds or work history with prestigious companies. Instead, he stressed that applicants must demonstrate strong coding skills. Musk posted on X, saying, “We don’t care where you went to school or even whether you went to school… Just show us your code.”

With the mass production of Optimus and other major initiatives underway, Tesla and Musk appear to be ramping up efforts to innovate across multiple fronts. The hiring drive for Optimus signals that Tesla is moving closer to delivering its groundbreaking humanoid robot to consumers.
