Pinterest has been on a roll. From turning into a shopping space to ensuring users watch more videos , reports about the company have been in news off late. Now, another announcement from the company, and a big one, comes in the form of an acquisition. Pinterest bought Instapaper, a read later service. Yes, you heard that right. Pinterest is all about image, while Instapaper is more about text. However, essentially, both work as bookmarking services. So, this move makes much sense. “There is a lot of overlap between Pinterest and Instapaper. Joining Pinterest provides us with the additional resources and experience necessary to achieve that shared mission on a much larger scale,” Instapaper wrote in a blogpost. “As we focus on the future of the user experience, we’ll be sunsetting our developer product, Instaparser. Starting today, we will cease signups for Instaparser and halt billing for existing customers. In order to ensure a smooth transition for current users, we will keep Instaparser running until November 1, 2016,” the blogpost further writes. Instapaper wants to take its leanings related to news-based content to Pinterest’s discovery products. It also plans to experiment with its parsing technology for certain Rich Pin types. For Instapaper users, nothing changes, claims the company. However, the Instapaper team working from the New York City will move to San Francisco. While the company promises nothing will change, the trail of comments in the blogpost clearly show how loyal and premium Instapaper users are worried about the changes that could come with their favourite service post acquisition.
