In an interesting move, Facebook has gone ahead and acquired a ‘modular electronics platform’ that can be used to build gadgets — Nascent Objects. This California startup has earlier worked with Ammunition, which is also responsible for designing Beats products. It’s a software program that basically accelerates the process of building gadgets. The team will become a part of the Building 8 Lab.

Building 8 is led by Regina Dugan. Dugan earlier was a part of Google’s advanced technology and products team that worked on modular phones. She has also shared a video (above) sharing the first glimpse of Nascent Objects. In the past we’ve heard Google go all out with its plans to build a ‘modular’ device. Recently, we’ve seen LG come up with a modular battery in its newest device. However, it is still unknown how Facebook plans to leverage this bit. “Nascent is likely a good fit for this part of the social networking giant’s operations, as it will provide the resources and funding to help expand Objects’ modular system, while also giving it a home where it should be put to fairly consistent use across a range of different types of projects, without the startup having to focus on customer acquisition,” explains TechCrunch. The financial details of the deal haven’t been disclosed yet.
