Sony's Rs 39,990 price tag for PS4 could give Xbox One the edge in India

Is this the chance that Microsoft Xbox was waiting for in India? Sony’s decision to price its flagship device at Rs 39,990 has come as quite a shocker, given that it costs $399 in the US (this works out to about Rs 25,000). The price is for the console and one controller, while additional DualShock 4 controllers will cost you Rs 4,999. The PlayStation Eye motion controller will also have to be bought separately. Although the Microsoft XBox One is priced around $100 more than the PS4 in the US, if the company plays its cards right, it can give Sony a real run for its money in India. It is already competing fiercely with the Japanese company to gain dominance over the gaming market. As a simple matter of fact, the  PS4’s gaming performance is slightly better, and since most games are now available on both consoles the issues of missing out is more or less negligible. Adding to that, Sony’s PS Network has great indie game options which Xbox Live has yet to match. But while Sony’s Playstation 4 is a finely crafted machine that promises to deliver cutting edge gaming experience, Microsoft’s Xbox One is the quiet self assured system that aims to provide a wider range of entertainment options – not just games. Targeting a market that extends beyond the hardcore gaming community — the Xbox One can connect to your TV box and provide a single interface for your entertainment needs. It also comes packaged with the Kinect camera system. Another problem faced by the current PS4 is that there seems to a complete lack of exclusive PS4 games. Although there are additional costs to the Xbox One, like a yearly payment of $60 to Microsoft — and the fact that it also requires a high speed Internet connection (we all know how dodgy Internet connections are in India), if the company prices it for around the same price or slightly higher than the PS4, then things could get really interesting.
