Elon Musk, the ever-controversial CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has hinted at a new mission outside the tech world — streamlining the US government. If Donald Trump’s potential return to the White House includes a role for Musk, the billionaire is eager to jump in and whip Washington into shape.

Musk, who is no stranger to supporting Trump’s ventures, made these comments during a chat on Tucker Carlson’s online show, live from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago base.

It seems that, despite previous claims of political neutrality, Musk has put his weight behind Trump, especially following a serious incident in July where the president-elect faced an assassination attempt.

Trump even floated the idea of a special “government efficiency” commission, cleverly dubbed the DOGE (a playful nod to Musk’s love for Dogecoin), and offered Musk the top spot.

The tech mogul expressed a genuine interest in taking on the task, focusing on making the government run smoother. He believes that the US government is drowning in overlapping agencies and tangled regulations, causing hidden but significant costs for ordinary people. Musk thinks a bit of business savvy could work wonders for cutting through the bureaucratic red tape.

Musk hasn’t just offered words, though. He’s reportedly invested heavily in Trump’s cause, with media outlets noting that he poured at least $118 million into a political action committee aimed at boosting voter outreach.

And he’s not shy about promising big savings either. Speaking at a Trump rally last month, Musk declared his intention to help trim at least $2 trillion from the annual budget if he gets the opportunity to lead the proposed government overhaul.

He’s been pretty vocal about his concerns over US debt, too. Just last week, Musk warned that if Washington doesn’t rein in its spending, the nation could face financial collapse sooner rather than later.

With his bold predictions and plans to slash costs, it’s clear Musk sees himself as more than just a tech titan — maybe even a future Secretary of DOGE, if all goes according to Trump’s vision.

It remains to be seen whether Musk’s ambitions to revolutionise government efficiency will ever come to fruition, but one thing’s for sure: he’s ready to step in and tackle the nation’s bureaucracy head-on.
