Samsung is gearing up to make waves in early 2025 with the launch of its highly anticipated Galaxy S25 series. Expected to be unveiled in January, the buzz around the upcoming lineup is centred on its impressive hardware upgrades.
Recent leaks and a Geekbench listing have revealed that all Galaxy S25 models will be powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, marking a major performance boost compared to previous generations.
A Geekbench entry for a device, believed to be the Korean variant of the standard Galaxy S25, has provided some exciting insights.
Benchmark scores and performance upgrades
The listing, first spotted by X user @Jukanlosreve, shows a Samsung device with the model number SM-S931N running on a Snapdragon chipset with overclocked CPU cores reaching a blazing 4.47GHz. This hints at a custom “Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy” variant, featuring an upgraded GPU and CPU compared to the regular Snapdragon 8 Elite chip found in competing devices like the OnePlus 13 and Xiaomi 15, which are capped at 4.32GHz.
The Geekbench data reveals some impressive scores: 2,481 for single-core performance and 8,658 for multi-core, with the device running Android 15 and equipped with 12GB of RAM. If these numbers hold true, the Galaxy S25 series is shaping up to deliver exceptional speed and efficiency.
Same SoC for the Galaxy S25 series
One major shift this year is Samsung’s rumoured decision to ditch its in-house Exynos chips entirely. Instead, the company is expected to use Snapdragon silicon in all regions, providing consistent performance worldwide.
This move follows the success of the Galaxy S23 series, which exclusively used Snapdragon processors across all markets. The Galaxy S24 series, in contrast, featured a mixed approach, using Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processors in markets like the US and Exynos 2400 chips in others.
By standardising on Snapdragon chipsets globally, Samsung aims to eliminate performance disparities and offer a more reliable user experience. The potential “Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy” variant, with its overclocked capabilities, is expected to set the Galaxy S25 apart, offering cutting-edge performance for demanding apps and games.
Industry insiders are already buzzing about the series’ potential, although Samsung has yet to confirm these specs officially.
Possible launch date and venue speculation
As for the launch details, South Korean outlet FNNews has reported that the Galaxy S25 series will be unveiled on January 23rd, while some reputable tipsters suggest it could debut a day earlier on January 22nd.
The global launch event is likely to take place in California, following the tradition of previous Galaxy S series events. Last year, the Galaxy S24 series was revealed in San Jose, while the S23 series launch took place in San Francisco.
