Samsung Galaxy S24 series global launch: What to expect, how to watch live

Samsung is set to reveal its latest flagship smartphone series, the Galaxy S24 series, during the Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for tomorrow. The event, taking place in San Jose, California, at 1:00 PM ET (11:30 PM IST), is expected to showcase three new models: the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra. Industry watchers speculate that Samsung may introduce cutting-edge ‘Galaxy AI’ features during the event. Samsung Galaxy S24 series: Specifications The Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus are expected to feature the Samsung Exynos 2400 chipset in Germany and Europe, with the global market receiving the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. On the other hand, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is likely to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset across all markets. The standard Galaxy S24 is projected to offer a 6.2-inch Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED display, boasting a resolution of 1,080x2,340 pixels. The device may house a triple camera setup, featuring a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 10MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom. Additionally, a 4,000 mAh battery is expected, supporting both 25W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. The Galaxy S24+, with a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED display and a resolution of 1,440x3,120 pixels, could feature a similar triple camera setup. This model is projected to include a 4,900 mAh battery with 45W wired charging and 15W wireless charging support. For the Galaxy S24 Ultra, a 6.8-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED display with a resolution of 3120 x 1440 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate is anticipated. The top-end model is expected to boast a quad-camera setup, including a groundbreaking 200MP primary sensor, two telephoto lenses with 5x and 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera sensor. As for the chipsets the Galaxy S24 models launching internationally are rumored to be powered by the recently announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. However, conflicting reports suggest that some countries, including India, may receive models equipped with Samsung’s Exynos 2400 chip. RAM configurations are expected to range from 8GB on the base S24 to a substantial 12GB on the productivity-focused S24 Ultra. Storage options vary, catering to both casual and power users, with capacities of 128/256/512GB for S24, 256/512GB for S24+, and 256GB/512GB/1TB for S24 Ultra. Battery endurance is set to receive a boost, with the S24 featuring a 4000mAh battery and 25W charging, the S24+ sporting a 4900mAh battery with 45W charging, and the S24 Ultra equipped with a massive 5000mAh battery also paired with 45W charging. Samsung Galaxy S24 series: AI Features Samsung aims to captivate audiences with its Galaxy AI features, potentially rivalling the Pixel 8 by integrating AI-driven functionalities. Notable tools include a Magic Editor-like feature for photo enhancement and real-time translation of phone calls facilitated by AI. Furthermore, in a bid to enhance user experience, the Galaxy S24 series may receive extended software and OS upgrade support of up to 7 years, ensuring eligibility for updates up to Android version 21. This move aligns with Samsung’s commitment since 2020 to provide four years of major OS upgrades and five years of security updates for its flagship and select mid-range smartphones.
