Samsung is diving deep into the development of AI technology and is eager to face off against its competitors in India, one of its most important markets. JB Park, President & CEO of Samsung Southwest Asia, expressed that the company is not just focusing on smartphones but is aiming to provide an entire ecosystem for its users.
Speaking to PTI before the launch of its next flagship, the Galaxy S25 series, he mentioned that Samsung is gearing up for what they expect to be a “bigger year for the Indian smartphone industry” in 2025, and the company is ready to rise to the occasion.
Competition is part of the fun, says Samsung
When asked about the fierce competition Samsung faces in India, Park made it clear that the company welcomes it. “We enjoy the challenge,” he said, adding, “To be honest, life is so boring without having a strong opponent or competition.”
Currently, Samsung is seeing intense rivalry from Apple in the super-premium smartphone segment (priced over USD 800) and from Chinese handset makers in the USD 400-600 range. While he acknowledged that Chinese brands have quickly adapted to AI technology, Park highlighted the risks involved in sharing personal data with these companies. He noted, “The thing is, are these brands (Chinese) trusted that you can give your private information to them to help your AI assist needs?”
Focussing on innovation and customer experience
Park explained that while competition is fierce, Samsung’s focus remains on creating a strong consumer experience and building a unique offering. He stated, “Do we win in every battle and every price segment, we don’t but our focus and importance is on the consumer experience and needs and to develop differentiation factors for the future.”
This strategy has helped Samsung not only consolidate its leadership in the market but also expand its premium segment share, with more consumers in smaller Indian towns now opting for its high-end phones.
2025 to be a massive year for Indian Smartphone tech
Samsung’s efforts to expand into smaller towns have been pivotal, with the company opening new stores designed to serve as “the ultimate AI destination,” offering immersive experiences and top-notch customer service.
Park expressed optimism about 2025, stating, “We hope 2025 will be a bigger year for India smartphone industry. We are all well prepared.” With a solid plan in place, Samsung is confident it will continue to thrive in the competitive Indian smartphone market.
