Headphones these days are loaded with many features, than ever before. The headphones under the scanner—Zebronics ZEB-9000HMV—are aimed specifically towards the gamer. They come with a mic and a vibration feature, wherein the headphones vibrate when subjected to lower frequencies i.e. an explosion will also vibrate the headphone giving you a more realistic experience. Lets see if it can impress us.

Design
These are USB headphones i.e. they connect to a USB port on the computer. With USB being the only connectivity option, they are unsuitable for use with portable devices like mp3 players wherein you need a headphone with a 3.5 mm jack. The USB connection in this case actually powers the rumble function of the headphones.
The ear cushions are made of foam and are covered with a thin leather type material making them comfortable and also durable. The headband also comes with similar type of cushioning and is adjustable on both, the left and the right side. Manufacturers generally skimp on cable length. The important thing to keep in mind here is since you would be using it with your PC alone, you need ample cable length to reach the USB ports on your computer case along with freedom to move around a little. The cable is six feet in length, so no problem here.

Features
The headphones come with an interesting ‘vibration’ feature wherein the lower frequencies of sound spectrum are converted into vibrations. For your information, the thumping bass you hear from a woofer is low frequency sound.
The remote has the option to adjust the vibration to three levels—Off, Medium and Full. At first it was a novel experience when playing games, but it can be quite an annoyance after a point in time while watching movies or playing games under ‘full’ setting. If you want to utilize the vibration feature, we recommend keeping it at medium setting.
Other features include a mic, which can be used for internet applications like Skype and can also be used for in-game conversations for games like Counter-Strike and Warcraft.

Performance
We found the sound quality to be pretty impressive, even as Zebronics is a new brand. The mic performed well too. We used it to chat on Skype and also used it in CounterStrike; in both applications the audio quality was crisp and clear.

Conclusion
If you are a gamer these headsets are just for you. The rumble in the headphones adds a new dimension and enhances your experience. But since it plugs only into a USB port you cannot use it with portable devices such as mp3 players. At Rs. 1,900, the ZEB-9000HMV is just about worth it.
