With just two products under its belt, Tekfusion is an aspiring Bangalore-based start up trying to make its way into the enthusiast IEM segment. Today, we’ll be looking at the Twinwoofers M (M for mobile) designed especially for smartphones due to the in-line microphone. Let’s see if they can deliver the goods.
Design and features
The Twinwoofers M are crafted with good attention to detail and a toughened chassis lending them a premium feel that’s sturdy and durable. The 1.5 m cable is made of soft rubber that doesn’t tangle easily; however, it feels a little frail at the same time. The hour glass-shaped chassis has a nice snug fit and the default ear tips are very comfortable. The package includes a wide selection of eartips (no foam tips) and a handy carry pouch and case.
The chambers are built well, although the cables seem frail
The in-line microphone is easily accessible and features a single button for answering and disconnecting calls. This can also be used to control your music; a single click can pause/resume your tracks and double click lets you skip ahead. On Android, long pressing opens up Google Voice. The earphones are designed to work with Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerry, but no there’s mention of iOS on the site.
Performance
The Twinwoofers M fit nicely into your ear canals without the need for too much adjustment. The standard ear tips provide very good isolation from ambient noise, which means you won’t need to turn up the volume levels too high. The earphones are incredibly bass heavy out-of-the-box, which tends to drown out most of the other notes. This didn’t get any better even after a 24-hour burn-in.
The bundled ear tips
The 10 mm drivers manage to deliver a wide sound stage, however, and changes to the EQ or bitrate is noticeable. There was a telling difference between FLACS and MP3s, but due to the over powering bass, you won’t be able to enjoy all genres of music. Trance, hip-hop or even dubstep is best enjoyed on Twinwoofers. However, if you’re looking for detail in your music, then you’ll be a bit disappointed. That’s not to say the Twinwoofer’s are bad at detail. After a little tweaking of the EQ settings, we were able bring out better mids.
The in-line remote doubles as a microphone too
Verdict and price in India
The Twinwoofers M are available for a street price of Rs 2,100 (Rs 3,399 MRP), which is little expensive given the performance isn’t really up to the mark. While the bundle and packaging is top notch, we felt the cables of the earphones were too frail and a slight snag could cause some serious damage. It’s also very bass heavy, with a tendency to overpower the softer and finer tones in your music. The in-line remote works well, although we’d have liked to see volume control as well.
