We never managed to review Fable 2 for our site but that was because there were certain complications that prevented us from doing so. Even so, I’ve played the game on and off (playing without the pressure to review FTW) and even though I pretty much hated it at first, I’ve warmed up to the game tremendously off late.
Microsoft recently released some paid DLC (downloadable content) for the game called Knothole Island that allows players to explore a brand new region (called Knothole Island) and we’re here to tell you if it’s worth the 500 rupee price tag.
To access Knothole Island you’ll first have to head to Bowerstone docks where you’ll encounter the Inventor and his home made submarine. The reason he risked raveling all the way to Bowerstone in his home made submarine is because he’s looking for a hero to liberate Knothole Island from the extreme weather that’s been plaguing it off late. Your goal off course if you choose to accept it is to head over to the island and put the residents out of their perennial misery (and I’m not talking bullet to the brain here).
The DLC doesn’t bring any sort of new gameplay to the table. You’ll still have to explore stuff, dig up treasures with your trusted dog, open randomly places treasure chests, fight groups of enemies and indulge in a few basic puzzles. If you didn’t like Fable this DLC isn’t going to change your mind but if you loved the game, you’ll lap up everything Knothole Island throws at you.
As far as items are concerned all the superficial people out there will be glad to know that there are certain magical potions found exclusively on Knothole Island that allow you to loose weight, remove all your scars (for a heavy price off course) and so on. You even have newer weapons and some wicked clothing options including one very bad ass looking Knothole Knight suit to look forward too. There’s also a store on the island that offers mysterious items you’ll never find anywhere else. The kicker over here is that you can’t buy it with money; you’ll have to exchange them for other items found all over Albion.
You can access the DLC even if you haven’t completed the game (which thankfully I did) and this allowed me to use all my new gear in the single player campaign as well. For someone who’s already finished the game there’s not much to look forward too since the main quests are painfully short but at a price tag of just 500 bucks, I would definitely recommend you to take the dive, download the DLC and re-visit Albion all over again.
