Contract Killer: Zombies Mobile Game Review

While browsing through vast amount of games available on the mobile platform, we came across this little blood and gore item – Contract Killer: Zombies, by Glu Mobile, on the Android Marketplace. Not to be confused with the bunch of other “Contract Killer” games available on the Market, this one has nothing to do with getting paid to assassinate people. Here’s a closer look.

Story Line
It’s the same old ‘been there, see that’ type story line – Post apocalyptic type, virus infested earth is riddled with flesh eating, overtly violent, undead aka Zombies, for short. Don’t hope for something that’s too thrilling in terms of a pattern. You play a wheel chair ridden loner who’s traversing through the city, doing what you do best, killing Zombies. The artwork, post each level may be a bit repetitive, but the comic book tone to it does make it quite appealing. Some of the dialogues, like - I’m not a hero… just trying to survive. They call me “Shooter”, because that’s what I do. Shooting zombies is the only thing I’m good at… and I’m good. DAMN good. - sounds a bit corny and clichéd, but what the hell, that’s what any Zombie tale in the 21st century is like.

Gameplay
Contract Killer: Zombies is what one could call a First Person Shooter (FPS) on rails. The layout is simple, you, Shooter, are placed at a slight advantage on a higher ground, while you’re hottie (naturally there had to be one of those) companion and other “survivors” run about gathering stuff or escaping the undead. It’s your job to protect these ‘innocents’, by taking out the Zombies with your trusty 6 shooter or a shotgun (equipped with from the get go).

Gameplay is simple - shoot and kill all the Zombies before they devour or beat to a bloody pulp, all of the unaffected citizens. Your options are to use the left virtual analogue stick for movement – up, down, left, right with a fire button on the right. Switching weapons is also quite simple. You can either zoom in for better accuracy, thereby reducing your moment speed, or simply use the cross-hair.

The game is rather heavy and after downloading the installer off the Market, you’ll need to download the rest of the game, which is about 302 MB. Make sure you have enough of space on your card or phone and that you’re running this on a handset that’s equipped with a 1GHz processor at the very least. We did try it on handsets with slower processors and that didn’t seem to work out too well as moments and response time was a bit off and sluggish.

What makes this game quite addictive is that unlike other FPS mobile enhanced games like N.O.V.A. with quite a bit of movement, you’ll feel a little more in control, perched in a static position. N.O.V.A., while doing well for itself as it is, can be a lot harder to play as aiming takes a little more getting used to than Contract Killer: Zombies.

The Bottom Line
All in all, for a free game, Contract Killer: Zombies is quite addictive. With options of getting more credits, upgrading your arsenal etc. and the overall look and feel of the game, one tends to wonder just how a game like this is being offered for free. We’re not complaining and we recommend giving it a shot. There’s no greater way to relieve stress than to take a few potshots at the Zombie populous. And fear not iOS users, Contract Killer: Zombies is also avilable for the iPhone and guess what? It’s free for Apple as well.

Don’t let them get her

The game is available in two options - a non-rated version with Blood and Gore for those whose stomachs can take it and a slightly less gruesome option for the faint of heart. Give it a go and let us know how you liked it.
