BenQ MP620C

BenQ, a conglomerate of ten companies, is slowly but surely creating a name for itself in India with its range of assorted electronic products – monitors, PC stuff, and projectors. And when we got hold of its new projector, the MP620C, what do we do? Review it of course! This device came to India officially in the beginning of this year, though globally it’s received some acclaim already.

Form Factor
It’s a straight-up rectangular chassis for the exterior, with straight edges and simple aesthetics. The overall look is decent, with an intense navy-blue smooth finish for the chassis, and an aluminum lens chamber. The focus/zoom dials are in the same faded aluminum, making this a two-toned affair. Similar colored buttons are placed topside, and are large and well laid out. A BenQ logo gleams in top view, at the bottom left.

It’s not the lightest projector out there, but it’s not too heavy either. Vertical setup is made quite easy with the help of a extension stand controlled by a mechanical button. It’s named ‘push’, so you need to do just that to raise/lower it. No screws. The front is ribbed throughout, to provide for ventilation on the sides

Features
Connections are aplenty: a D-Sub in and a D-Sub out, plus analog, S-video and 3.5 mm audio jack in. The main port is a centrally located DVI-I (dual link) in, which means support for both analog and digital. There’s also a USB mini(B) jack.

The contrast is 700:1 (static), with 2000:1 ANSI Lumens brightness. The native resolution is 1024 x 768 (XGA) and can go up to 1280 x 1024 (SXGA). Video goes up to 1080i, and the projector has a 2w speaker thrown in for convenience during presentations and stuff.

The throw distance range is 3.28 – 36.08 ft, while the range of the obtainable screen size is 31 – 300 inches. This is what the specs claim; we shall check and see how much we can stretch it!
