The last pair of speakers from Artis got our thumbs-up, and with good reason. Of course, it doesn’t mean that Artis products will fare splendidly all the time. Even so, the company seems to be in luck – the Artis S-dual speaker set that we have for review today is a perfect example of a good product that’s nominally priced. I wouldn’t go so far as to claim that the S-dual has no issues at all… but hey, there’s a lot more going for it than against.
The design is pretty interesting for a desktop computer speaker. What I’m getting at is that while you may have heard of a 2.1 phenomenon, the S-dual goes a bit further. There is the usual pair of stereo satellites with 3-inch drivers, and then there’s the sub-woofer with two 4-inch drivers – which they like to call the dual-bass audio system, or simply 2.2 speakers. Let’s get down to discussing some design features first.
The design is all black, with silver outlining the cones. The front of the satellites is a polished black, while the remaining sides come with a brushed black finish. The same color scheme is seen on the sub-woofer as well. It’s a good example of how a simple color scheme can look classy. It’s also appreciable that the sub-woofer is housed in a wooden casing.

Along with the two speakers on the sub-woofer, you will also find the volume level and the bass-to-treble leveler. It’s nice to see Artis do away with the usual protruding knobs; the existing levelers are concaved with tiny ridges for grip. All in all it’s a good firm design that doesn’t look bad at all on your desk.
The frequency response is 20Hz ~ 20 KHz. The whole purpose of the having a dual bass system is to equip users with extra low frequency sound definition. The bass is pretty effective, though I found it overpowering other frequencies.
At the same time you will feel that the lows are separated at the crossover. The right sound should always come as one product rather than separate frequencies.
The sound overall is very clean. The mids aren’t too flat and the highs are pretty well-defined, though it sort of tapers away. It’s a bass-lover’s delight for sure.
The Artis S-Dual costs Rs 2050 (street price), while the box price is Rs 2250. This makes the product excellent value for money, and we have no qualms recommending it.
