Looks like some real life baddies are using the “Bad piggies” (of Angry Birds fame) to cause some cyber damage. Read Write Web just reported that some hackers (who admittedly have a sense of humour) have created a fake chrome extension to Rovio’s Bad Piggies game, and infected some 80,000 devices with Malware. [caption id=“attachment_487726” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Bad Piggies from Rovio[/caption] The Bad Piggies game was released late September by the Angry Birds makers and rose to the top of the iPhone app store shortly after. The problem however, seems to be just in the Chrome store. The Read Write Web report quoted IT security firm Barracuda Networks as saying that the plug-in accesses popular sites like Yahoo, Myspace and even AngryBirds.com to snatch up personal info like email addresses and credit card numbers. A full list of the sites infected with adware so far is available on Barracuda’s blog. Apparently the app, which is created by a company called playook.info asks users to allow it access to website data. So a good way to protect yourself would be to very careful about what permissions the app asks you for before you allowing you to install it. So far a list of compromised sites and blogs are available on the Barracuda blog.
