Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated SEMICON India 2024 on Wednesday at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The event, which runs from 11 to 13 September, is themed “Shaping the Semiconductor Future” and aims to highlight India’s ambitions in the semiconductor sector.
One of Prime Minister Modi’s vision has been to position India as a global hub for semiconductor design, manufacturing, and technology development.
The three-day event will feature over 250 exhibitors and 150 speakers, showcasing India’s semiconductor strategy and policies aimed at transforming the country into a leading centre for semiconductor innovation.
At a roundtable with semiconductor executives held earlier this week, PM Modi assured that the Indian government would offer consistent and supportive policies for the industry. The meeting, attended by top representatives from companies such as Micron, NXP, PSMC, IMEC, and Renesas, focused on ensuring a stable policy environment and reducing compliance burdens to attract investment.
PM Modi highlighted the Indian government’s commitment to creating a favourable environment for the semiconductor industry by focusing on key areas such as reducing regulatory challenges and bolstering investment. The government also plans to enhance the skills of India’s workforce to meet the growing demands of the semiconductor sector.
The Indian semiconductor ecosystem is set for significant growth, with projections estimating the market size to reach $150 billion by 2030, according to Inc42. Prime Minister Modi emphasised India’s potential to be a reliable partner in a diversified semiconductor supply chain and underlined the country’s focus on developing globally competitive products.
With India’s growing prominence in the global semiconductor industry, SEMICON India 2024 represents a crucial step towards realising the country’s ambition to become a major player in this high-tech sector.
