Nothing , the London-based company’s USP of transparent backs and glowing lights is back. With the Nothing Phone 4a confirmed to launch on March 5, the brand is offering its clearest look yet at its latest creation, and it’s shaping up to be the most refined iteration of the series so far.
The new teaser gives us a good idea of what’s changed, and it’s clear Nothing has been busy fine-tuning its aesthetic. To see how far the design has come, let’s compare the upcoming Phone 4a with last year’s Phone 3a, which debuted with a focus on display and camera upgrades.
Nothing Phone 4a vs Phone 3a: Design
The Nothing Phone 4a doubles down on the brand’s signature transparent, industrial look but brings a more structured layout. The teaser images show a white rear panel with see-through elements that subtly reveal the internals underneath.
The camera module has shifted to a horizontal pill-shaped bar housing two lenses, framed neatly in brushed metal for a more premium finish.
There’s also a fresh Glyph Bar on the right-hand side featuring nine mini LEDs, with a small red accent marking the edge, a hint of personality without overwhelming the minimalist design. The layout feels tighter, more deliberate, and arguably more mature than before.
In contrast, the Phone 3a’s rear design was busier. It used a pill-shaped camera island set in a circular pit, surrounded by three Glyph strips that curved around the frame.

While distinct, it was less symmetrical and a little experimental. The new 4a design feels like Nothing has found its balance, more polished, less prototype.
Both phones retain the flat edges and clean lines that have become Nothing’s trademark, but the 4a’s backplate appears smoother, with fewer visual breaks. In other words, it’s still recognisably “Nothing,” but sleeker and more cohesive.

View AllChipset, Display and Battery: What’s New?
Under the hood, the Nothing Phone 4a is rumoured to pack the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset, offering a slight bump in efficiency and performance over the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 found in the Phone 3a series.
The display is expected to measure 6.7 inches, sporting a 1.5K AMOLED panel, a likely improvement in brightness and contrast over last year’s 6.8-inch OLED screen.
Camera hardware, too, gets an upgrade, the 4a could feature a 50MP + 50MP + 8MP triple setup, with improved image processing. Meanwhile, the Phone 3a introduced the brand’s first-ever telephoto lens, and its 3a Pro sibling went even further with a 50MP periscope camera offering 3x optical zoom. So, while the 4a may scale back on zoom power, it could benefit from software-driven computational photography instead.
Battery life should see a modest boost as well, with leaks suggesting a 5,400mAh cell, slightly larger than the 3a’s 5,000mAh pack. Nothing is expected to retain fast charging and likely stick with a USB-C port.
The Phone 3a was the bold, experimental younger sibling, flexing its new telephoto camera and expanded Glyph interface. The Phone 4a, by comparison, feels like the confident older one, still transparent, still playful, but more composed.
And that’s exactly what fans have been asking for. The minimalist white shell, the neatly aligned components, and the restrained lighting all suggest a company maturing in design without losing its quirk.
While official specs are still under wraps, it’s clear that Nothing wants to blend aesthetic appeal with practical refinement this time around. The Nothing Phone 4a might not reinvent the wheel, but it’s polishing it to perfection, and that might just be enough to keep the lights (and Glyphs) glowing.
