ZTE launches its first Android 4.1 phone N880E

ZTE Corporation, a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment and mobile devices, has launched its first handset operating on the Android 4.1 OS (Jelly Bean) in China.

ZTE launches its first Android 4.1 phone N880E

ZTE Corporation, a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment and mobile devices, has launched its first handset operating on the Android 4.1 OS (Jelly Bean) in China. The launch comes just one week after the release of the official version of the mobile device operating system.

The ZTE N880E smartphone runs the Google Experience version of Jelly Bean, is the first Android 4.1 smartphone launched in China, and the third in the world. Other ZTE handsets will be launched soon with Android 4.1 OS.

“ZTE has an excellent relationship with Google and this, combined with our extensive R&D capabilities and our experience of customising devices for partners around the world, means we are able to bring new technologies to market very quickly,” said Kan Yulun, Vice President and CTO of the Handset Division, ZTE. “Our aim is to provide the best quality customer experience for the best value, and the N880E is a great example of this.”

The ZTE N880E smartphone has a 4-inch capacitive WVGA touchscreen, with a 1 GHz Qualcomm 7627A processor, 4GB of memory and a 3.2 MP AF camera. It is an ultra-slim device 10.4 mm thick.

The ZTE N880E running Android 2.3 was first launched in May 2012, and has already sold more than one million units.

Version 4.1 of the Android mobile device operating system was released on July 13, and offers improved performance and responsiveness, with new features such as expandable notifications and Google Now.

ZTE also recently launched their first single chip LTE phone, the ZTE Grand X. The Grand X is Wi-Fi capable and runs Android 4.0. It’s powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core CPU, an 8 MP main camera that supports 1080p HD video shooting and playback, and a front camera that supports 720p HD video calls. The phone also packs in a 1900mAh large-capacity battery for more than a day’s worth of battery life.

  • Dimensions:  119mm x 61mm x 10.4 mm. Weight 130 grams
  • 4.0-inch TFT touch screen with a WVGA resolution of 480 x 800
  • 1650mAh Li-ion battery
  • The phone runs on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean
  • 4 GB of internal memory (expandable via MicroSD) and 512 MB RAM
  • 3.2 MP camera with autofocus
  • Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and AVRCP
  • 3G, EDGE and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
  • GPS with A-GPS support, GMS and FM Radio

The phone runs on the Qualcomm 7627 A processor, clocked at 1 GHz.
