ZOTAC Announces New GTX 550 Ti Multiview Graphics Card

First showcased at Computex 2011, ZOTAC has made their new Multiview graphics cards officially starting with the GTX 550 Ti. The new series will feature select Fermi cards with a little chip that splits the single HDMI connection into two, thereby giving you a three monitor display from a one single GPU graphics card. 

No need for SLI anymore

This is the first time an Nvidia Fermi-based single GPU graphics card will be capable of powering three monitors. Traditionally, you would need two cards in SLI to make this happen - not anymore. Despite this, you still won’t be able to use Nvidia’s 3DVision Surround and here’s why. What ZOTAC have cleverly done is simply split the HDMI signal and relayed it to two monitors which means Windows will still detect both the monitors as one so you’ll be left with an awkwardly stretched resolution on two of the three monitors. I had a chance to try this out at ZOTAC’s booth at Computex 2011. The idea is good, but the problem lies with Fermi itself. There’s simply no way to get true three monitor display from a single Fermi GPU at the moment.
