YouTube will let you watch videos offline on your phones later this year

At one point of time or another, we’ve all wished we could have watched videos on YouTube even when we had no access to Internet connection and are in a place getting bored. Google knows this too and is planning to let you download videos from mobile devices in order to view them offline.

In a blog post announcing the feature, the YouTube team said, “We’re always exploring ways to bring more viewers to your content. As part of this effort, later this year we’ll launch a new feature on YouTube’s mobile apps that will help you reach fans – even when they’re not connected to the Internet.”

Offline videos coming soon

These offline videos will be available on your mobile devices minus Internet connection for a short period of time. A report by AllThingsD suggests that the videos will be available offline for a period of 48 hours.

Interestingly, YouTube seems to be going against its own older rules to make offline videos available to you. For you to enjoy uninterrupted access to videos even without Internet connection, you will need to download them beforehand. Until now, it was against YouTube’s service terms and conditions to download videos, but it seems to be making an exception for itself. In fact, last year, YouTube even made a provision for its Android app that allowed users to finish watching a video that they had started online.

Not much is known about this feature as of now, but it is rumoured to be coming to mobile applications sometime in November. Guess your traveling on local trains and even airplanes are going to be a lot more fun starting this year.
