Popular video-sharing website YouTube may soon have a subscription option for its best original content. The service is said to offer ad-free streaming of certain video content that are part of the program which could include videos under YouTube Originals banner.
According to a report by The Verge , this move may be seen as a response to rising pressure from competitors such as Vimeo, Hulu, Vessel, and others. By introducing a paid subscription service, YouTube will be able to bring in more monetary profits to content creators.
This rumour comes out from an unnamed executive at a company that partners with YouTube to produce video content. The report further added that if this service is released, it could be similar ‘YouTube Music Key’ which provides access to videos ‘ad free’ along with free streaming from Google Play Music.
Recently, YouYube added support for 360-degree videos which makes the the video-sharing site more suitable for users who own virtual-reality headsets. Google has been working with companies that manufacture 360 degree movie cameras such as Bublcam, Giroptic’s 360cam, IC Real Tech’s Allie, Kodak’s SP360 and Ricoh Theta. This way, YouTube will be able to play 360-degree videos made with their cameras. This feature will be available on an iPhone, iPad and other devices soon.
