YouTube has been shifting some of its focus to user-generated content for some time now. Keeping that in mind, the Google-owned video site is launching a series of videos that will give a step-by-step guide for users who want to turn their channel from a hobby to a full-time “gig”.
The series, called YouTube Pro, will provide information and advice which will span a range of issues, such as crowdfunding, attracting and managing advertisers, using a manager, recording content series and a lot more.
YouTube is launching the “YouTube Pro” video series, which will show users how to become pros.
The USP of the series will be the featured inputs from YouTube and video content experts who have been in the field for some time now, and will draw from their experiences, according to YouTube’s blogpost.
The first topic that is going to be seen on the channel is titled “Working with Advertisers”. The series is made up of four videos, with selected experts covering aspects like effective pitching and effective brand content deals. The videos will also cover what to include in a contract, how to price a deal and also how to keep the audience in mind.
Apart from that, the company also plans to announce live events with experts talking to YouTube users soon. The locations for these live events have been finalised as New York, Los Angeles and London for now.
YouTube was earlier seen celebrating its eighth anniversary, where the company revealed that users now upload close to 100 hours of video per hour. While that is a staggering number by itself, for the past two years, YouTube has been looking at going beyond just being the Internet’s biggest database for video content to getting good original content and programming on its services.
This thought is probably behind the recent launch of YouTube’s paid-for channels, which is going to compete in the same category as Hulu and Netflix. However, this is not the first time that the company has been looking at original content. In 2011, Google launched its Channels programme, which provides selected content partners with the funding to create original content for YouTube’s channels, according to TNW.
While the amount being given has not been mentioned, the company is giving partners a lumpsum amount for investment in equipment and personnel to come up with good shows. Apart from that, Google is also giving its partners an up-front payment of future ad earnings over the next year. While Channels kicked off in the US, the platform has moved to a range of new markets, including the UK, France, Germany and Japan, and the company plans to spread further across the globe.
Google is very clear that YouTube Pro is not a part of Channels, though. This distinction comes primarily because the partners the company selects more often than not already have some sort of a team and infrastructure in place. YouTube Pro, however, aims at giving a helping hand to users who earn some money from YouTube.
