Today, YouTube has launched a new analytics tool for artists called Music Insights, so as to get a clear idea on how their music is performing worldwide. The new tool is said to provide analytics to over 10,000 of the most popular artists on the platform first, before it is available to others.
According to YouTube , an artist’s total views is based on both official and fan-uploaded videos claimed using Content ID . It includes data since September 2014 and will also make YouTube for Artists available in 22 languages. The ability to collect views from cities all over the world will help musicians understand where exactly their fan base is located.
The new tool is basically, a part of Google’s YouTube for Artists initiative to lend creators a hand, points out TechCrunch . It believes that this knowledge will be helpful while mapping out for a tour, focusing on cities where the artists have more viewers.
YouTube’s Music Insights tool comes a few days before the Worldwide Developers Conference, where Apple is most likely to announce a new music subscription service in the market. Giving Apple’s domination on the industry, its new service could be a potential threat to YouTube. In addition, YouTube also gains competition from Vimeo and music streaming networks such as Spotify, Tidal and Pandora who also offer music videos.
