Innovation is seeping into every sector of our life, this time it's water bottles. San Francisco based Quartz has launched the world's first self-cleaning water bottle and water purification system at CES 2018. What started as a Kickstarter project, Quartz was able to collect over $1.3 million from around 12,700 backers.
The 0.53 L, ultra-portable Quartz Bottle can be pre-ordered in the US at $79 including shipping charges after a discount of 20 percent. It will be shipped from June 2018.
The self-cleaning water bottle cleans the water inside the bottle in sixty seconds, using a 280 nm UV-C LED inserted at the bottom of the cap of the bottle. The bottle can be charged using a USB cable and one charge lasts up to 2-3 months.
The company claims that the bottle cleans 99.99 percent of the bio-contaminants such as bacteria and viruses found in water or the surface of the bottle. It cleans the water in the bottle every four hours (six times a day).
The double insulated and vacuum sealed Quartz Bottle can keep the water cold for 24 hours and hot for 12 hours. There is no need to replace filters as is often observed in other water purification systems.
The company claims that the bottle is 10,000 times cleaner than an average bottle and can save up to $1,000 per year compared with throwing the plastic bottles away.
Justin Wang, the co-founder at Quartz said, " We designed the Quartz Bottle to address major pain points of the consumers head on. The bottle delivers pure water from a self-cleaning bottle all while looking brilliant, so there will be no need to reach for a one-use plastic bottle."
Quartz is offering a discount of up to 44 percent on pre-ordering four water bottles.
It's available in four colours that includes Monaco Blue, Seaside Mint, Himalayan Pink and Obsidian Black.
