You can now 3D print your own Steam Controller

The Steam controller, a game controller designed and sold by Valve Software, the creators of Steam and Half-Life, can now be fully modded and customised. Valve has made the CAD files of the controller available to the public under Creative Commons licensing. The terms of the licensing mean that you’re free “to create and share to your heart’s content, but you’ll need to get in touch with Valve if you want to sell your creations.” Pierre Loup of Valve put up an announcement on the Steam community hub saying, “We are releasing the mechanical CAD geometry for the Steam Controller and are eager to see the accessories and variations that come from your creativity. We are making available, under Creative Commons licensing, the geometry of all externally visible parts.” Also available are some alternate designs for the Steam controller created by Valve. Valve’s Steam controller is a different take on the game controller in general. The USP of the device is far greater precision than offered by thumbsticks on a regular controller. The Steam controller achieves this by replacing the thumbsticks with touch sensitive pads (akin to a laptop’s touchpad, but with haptic feedback).
