Yahoo! Mail gets a photo app

Yahoo! has integrated a photo app into Yahoo! Mail, using which, users of the e-mail service can now view all the photos that they ever sent or received during the entire life of their e-mail account, as e-mail attachments all at one place, thereby allowing them to manage their photos in an organized manner. Thumbnails of all the images can be viewed, and can be filtered by date, sender, folder and size.

Yahoo! claims the new photo app allows users to easily view and search for any photo and they can also access the app from either their desktop or mobile device. The photos app (Photos), which can be located under the Application section on the left tab needn’t be downloaded. Once inside the app, users can choose to view all their photos, irrespective of the number in a slideshow format. The app shows the most recent photos first by default, but if you’re in there looking for some older photos, then you can do so by selecting “Sort by: Oldest.”

Interestingly, the app also allows users to share the photos with friends and family, either via e-mail or by uploading them to Flickr - Yahoo!’s image and video hosting website. Users can share their photos with their family and friends via e-mail by first selecting the photo(s). To do so, users can click anywhere on the photo and once they do so, a green checkmark will appear, along with a description of the image. On clicking the Sharing button, users are given the option between Share as Attachments or Share as Links via Flickr. On clicking Share as Attachments, a new e-mail will open with the selected photos attached. The mail can now be composed and sent.

As aforementioned, users also have the option to upload the images on Flickr. To do so - Users need to first select the photo(s), just the way they would, if they were attaching them onto an e-mail. users can click anywhere on the photo and once they do so, a green  checkmark will appear, along with a description of the image. On clicking the Sharing button, soon after, users are given the  option between Share as Attachments or Share as Links via Flickr. Here, users need to click on Share as Links via Flickr. If a user does not have a Flickr account, then he can create it just then, from their Yahoo! Mail account. Once the user has his Flickr account in place, he can then proceed to upload the images and can send his friends the link to his Flickr web album.

Further, the app allows users to view any photos that they have uploaded to Flickr from their mobile device on their Yahoo! Mail account and vice-versa.

Elaborating a little more on the Photos app on Yahoo! Mail, in an official post it has been stated, “Check it out and you’ll quickly see how easy and fun it is to use! Take a walk down memory lane—relive that family reunion from 2010, the trip to Mexico or your nephew’s graduation from just last week!”
