The revamping of Yahoo under CEO Marissa Mayer continues. After Yahoo Mail got a major design overhaul along with the Flickr mobile app, Images on Yahoo also got a serious boost.
According to this Yahoo blogpost, searching for Images on Yahoo will now include photos from Flickr which can be re-used under a creative common license.
Creative Commons License images are those where the authors/creators of the images don’t mind you using their pictures as long as attribution protocol is observed. The type of attribution varies according to the type of license used by the owner of the photograph.
The blog post reads:
Using Yahoo! Image Search, you can now easily find photos from Flickr that are available for re-use or re-posting under Creative Commons terms. (To learn more about Flickr’s Creative Commons rules and attribution policies, please click here.)
Tens of millions of photos are now yours to search and share, courtesy of all the amazing photographers in the Flickr community.
How will it work? Go to Yahoo Search Image Search, and look for an image. If you want an image, click on the filter tab on the Left hand side that says “Labeled for Reuse”. This will automatically show all results that are under Creative Commons License in Flickr. If you hover over the thumbnail, you will see details about the photo, including the photographer’s name, which is a clever popularity boost for him/her.

If you want to see specific Creative Commons license terms for that particular image, just click on the Thumbnail, which will enlarge the image. At the bottom you will see Attribution link and if you click on this it will show the complete license terms. If you want to see images by a specific photographer, just click the “i” next to the image and you can see the rest of their photostream on Flickr.
This feature is available on tablets and mobile devices as well.
