Xiaomi has its hands in almost every consumer electronics category, smartphones, fitness bands, TVs, action cameras to things such as routers, Android TV players, and even drones. So it is but natural to expect the Chinese phone maker to have a smartphone in the works. According to a China-based analyst Pan Jiutang, Xiaomi’s first smartwatch is slated to release quite soon. According to Jiutang, the power consumption on the watch is comparable to that seen on Garmin’s variables. There will most likely be two variants of the upcoming Xiaomi smartwatch - one costing CNY 999 (approx Rs 10,000) and the other costing CNY 1599 (approx Rs 16,000). While one would expect Xiaomi’s smartwatches to sport Android Wear OS, Jiutang’s information does not confirm or deny that. There has obviously been no response from Xiaomi on the matter. But if we keep Xiaomi’s past history in mind, it can do to the smartwatch category what its Mi phones have done to the smartphone segment and Mi Bands have done for the fitness tracker segment. Getting a feature packed device at an affordable price point. Earlier in April, Huami’s CEO (which makes the Mi Bands) had confirmed that the smartwatch would come out in Q2. Later towards the end of April, Xiaomi VP Liu De also confirmed that Mi Smartwatch would come out in the second half.
