Xiaomi to launch its own VR headset in August, reveals GM

Now that OnePlus is done with the launch of its VR headset and its flagship smartphone, its now Xiaomi’s turn to take the game up a notch. The Chinese smartphone maker seems to be preparing a VR headset that is expected to work with current and future smartphones, revealed Xiaomi GM, Tang Mu. As reported by PriceRaja, this could be Xiaomi’s take on Google’s Project Daydream or it could just be a simple VR headset. But Tang Mu kind of confirmed that this one will be designed with Daydream in mind. The GM also confirmed that the headset will be available globally in August, which could give many developers the time to optimise VR content for its MIUI software. Oddly, the GM also stated Xiaomi alone can deliver the best VR headset for the best MIUI integration and experience. This confession also hints directly at Xiaomi launching a Daydream capable smartphone soon. Currently none of the smartphones available in the market can support Google’s VR project. The only handset that does work (for developer purposes) is the Huawei made Nexus 6P . Huawei and other manufacturers have already announced that they will be launching Daydream capable hardware by year end.
