Xiaomi teams up with Flipkart to launch new smartphones in India: Report

From the start of the year, Hugo Barra, the former Android VP who **left Google**  to join Xiaomi last year, has been hinting at the brand entering the Indian market. After a string of reports talking about the Xiaomi smartphones coming to India soon, a new BGR report now reveals that the company plans to go the Moto way and team up with Flipkart to launch its smartphones in India.   However, what sets it apart from Motorola-Flipkart deal is it will import the devices. In case of Moto devices, Flipkart was importing the devices on its own. However, the report points out that Xiaomi will import the devices, and the units will then be retailed by Flipkart. This also suggests that Xiaomi doesn’t plan to set up its own retail chain here, yet.   Xiaomi  plans to announce two new smartphones in India in between mid-July and early-August, adds the news report. The two devices are most likely the low-cost Redmi and its bestselling Mi3. The Redmi sports a 4.7-inch 720p IPS display, comes powered by a  1.5GHz MediaTek 6589 quad-core processor processor coupled with 1GB RAM, 4GB internal storage with microSD card support, 8-megapixel rear snapper and a 1.3-megapixel front camera.   The Mi3 that was launched in September last year, sports a 5-inch 1080p display. It has two variants - one running on Nvidia Tegra 4 processor clocked at 1.8GHz and another with Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC. The latter is said to be made available for the Indian market. Some of its nottable specs include 2GB RAM, 13MP rear camera, 2MP front camera and 3,050mAh battery.   The Redmi could be priced around Rs 8,000 and the Mi3 around Rs 15,000, claims the report. Along with the phones, the company also Xiaomi is also expected to launch new phone accessories. At the moment, there’s no official confirmation on the product line or the price, so we have to wait for the final word from the company.
