Reports about Xiaomi's own e-commerce store have been doing rounds for quite some time now. The Chinese handset maker has now started selling accessories on its Mi India store.
Currently, there are three accessories listed on the Mi India store - Redmi Note flip case, Redmi soft gel protective case and Mi in-ear headphones. So far, the company had been selling its devices only via its exclusive India partner, Flipkart.
We wouldn't be surprised if the company expands the lineup of devices it is selling online to include other products soon. Last month, Manu Jain, India operations head at Xiaomi had reportedly said that the company is currently seeking expert advice on how to structure it (its own marketplace) so they don’t get into a legal tangle later.
It was also reported after the Mi4 launch in India that the Chinese smartphone maker planned to sell smartphones in India later this year through its own portal as well.
Jain had also told Firstpost that the company is in the process of setting up its own e-commerce operations in India. When asked about the timeframe, he said, “It would be very difficult to say. It could happen anytime between the next four to six months.” Manu Jain is also the co-founder of the popular e-commerce site Jabong, and could lend his expertise at designing a site for Xiaomi that suits Indian consumers.
