The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro only started selling from 22 February onwards and already users are seeing a new update pop up on the device. The update is the MIUI V220.127.116.11 stable build and it brings the much-anticipated face unlock feature to the device.
Xiaomi had said during the unveiling of the device that the face unlock feature would be coming as soon as possible. However, no one expected it to come so soon.
Along with the Face unlock feature, the phone has also received some optimisations to system stability. We reviewed the Redmi Note 5 Pro and concluded that it is the budget smartphone king, but that the competition is inching closer. You can read our full review here.
The Redmi Note 5 Pro has a Snapdragon 636 SoC powering it and it comes in two variants of 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage options. The phone has a dual-camera setup with 12 MP + 5 MP sensors on the back and a 20 MP Sony IMX376 unit for selfies on the front.
Recently, the Honor 9 Lite, a device launched under Huawei's sub-brand Honor, started receiving the "Face Unlock" feature via HOTA (Huawei's Over the Air update). The HOTA rollout has started in batches and will be rolled out to everyone by 5 March.
