The June edition of the IDC India Monthly Smartphone Tracker, reports Xiaomi shipped 880,000 units of the Redmi Note 3 in the second quarter of 2016. This is the highest number of shipments for a smartphone, in any given quarter, ever. Xiaomi confirms that it sold 1.75 million units over a period of five months. The shipping volume is more than twice that of the second most shipped smartphone, on an online marketplace. One in every nine smartphones sold online in the second quarter of 2016, was a Redmi Note 3.

Xiaomi was founded on the principle of making available high quality devices at affordable prices. The devices have proven to be popular in India with the company achieving  72% year-on-year growth in sales volume since 2014. The Redmi Note 3 is a part of the "Make in India" initiative, and are locally manufactured, which has further helped Xiaomi meet the high demand in India. The Redmi 3S prime sold over 90,000 units within 8 minutes on Flipkart, which became one of the most successful open sales on Flipkart.

“It has been extremely encouraging to witness the overwhelming support for Redmi Note 3 in India, such that it has become the best-selling smartphone ever in the online market," said Manu Jain, India Head, Xiaomi. "We cannot thank our Mi Fans enough for such an incredible response and making this success possible for us. Our commitment towards Make in India has further acted as a catalyst in meeting the demand for our popular Redmi series. We are committed to sustaining the momentum and will continue to launch amazing products here in India.”
