Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime, an upgraded version to the Xiaomi Redmi 2 has been spotted on Amazon India. At the moment, the device is listed as 'unavailable' and no details have been shared regarding price and availability. The official announcement for the device may be on August 13, during Xiaomi's event in China.
Last month, the new enhanced Redmi 2 had surfaced on the Mi Singapore Facebook page. The device carries a price tag of $179 that translates to roughly Rs 11,300. In India, it may cost around Rs 7,000, just like the previous Redmi handsets.
So, what’s new in the enhanced Redmi 2? The new variant of Xiaomi’s low-end smartphone will now come with 2GB RAM and 16GB onboard storage, which is twice of what we have seen in the original device. Besides, the rest of the hardware and software remains the same.
In terms of specifications, the Redmi 2 features a 4.7 inch HD IPS display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. Under the hood, it is powered by a 64-bit 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and Adreno 306 GPU. It runs Xiaomi’s own MIUI 6 skin over Android 4.4 KitKat. The device has an internal storage of 8GB and can be further expanded via microSD card. It has an 8MP rear camera along with a 2MP front-facing camera.
