Xiaomi plans on shipping at least 90 million devices in 2017, says CEO Lei Jun

Lei Jun, CEO of Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi, has claimed that the company is aiming to ship at least 90 million units in 2017. This would be the highest annual shipments figure achieved by the company. [caption id=“attachment_3905687” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Reuters.[/caption] Xiaomi has had an impressive year after it claimed that it had sold over **10 million smartphones** in September, wherein 1.3 million smartphones were sold in just 48 hours during the festive season sale on Amazon and Flipkart in the Indian market. The company has also recently introduced the Redmi 5A  entry-level smartphone in China for just 599 CNY (around Rs 6,000) with a 5-inch 720p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 CPU and a 13-megapixel rear camera. Xiaomi’s business model of providing high-performance devices at low-cost pricing has created a surge in demand for Xiaomi devices claims the report. Xiaomi’s aggressively priced smartphones have helped it to outrun its competition including Oppo and Vivo. The  report by Digitimes states that this strategy has helped the company become the second largest smartphone vendor in China after Huawei. Lei added that Xiaomi plans on becoming the largest smartphone vendor in the Chinese market by 2020. This comes weeks after Xiaomi unveiled its premium flagship device **Mi Mix 2** in India at a price of Rs 35,999. Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 packs Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor along with 5.99-inch bezel-less display, 6 GB RAM and a 12 MP rear camera with 4-axis OIS.
