Mini or compact flagships are nowhere to be seen. Sony used to offer high-end smartphones with a small form factor, but now the Compact range is just a mid-ranger. However, a recent rumour claims that Xiaomi could carry forward the legacy of mini flagship smartphones.
The leak suggests that Xiaomi is working on a smartphone by the name of Mi S which will be launched soon. Details of the handset were leaked via some 'promotional material.' The smartphone definitely sounds very interesting although there is no guarantee of the authenticity of the information that was leaked.
The features of the Mi S include a 4.6-inch Full HD 1080p display with 600-nit brightness and 2.5D curved glass on top. A Snapdragon 821 processor paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage fill the internals. In the camera department, there is a 12MP rear camera with a Sony IMX378 sensor, f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus, 4K video capture and dual-LED flash. On the front there is a 4 MP unit with an f/2.0 aperture with 1080p video recording.
The battery will be a 2,600 mAh unit with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 through a USB Type-C port. The dimensions are claimed to be 128.3 x 64.2 x 8.2 mm with a weight of 138 grams. The home button on the front could also feature a fingerprint scanner.
Xiaomi's Mi 4i was a popular compact smartphone which means that the company knows its way around small smartphones. If this high-end mini smartphone is the real deal, then it could be one of the best options to get under the 5-inch form factor.
