Mi Note 2: Forget ultra-thin bezels, Xiaomi's upcoming flagship may not have any

Xiaomi’s Mi Note 2 has been surfacing in images time and again. This time around we have two new images that showcase a smartphone with literally no bezels at the top end. While the leaker pegs it as the Mi Note 2, it does look like a prototype, this is because we have already seen plenty of images of what we think is the **Mi Note 2 with dual cameras** at the back. The two images that have surfaced online (on Weibo) were reported by Xiaomi Today and show just the top end of what is said to be a phablet device. The image reveals just a frame that wraps around the edges of a functional display running Xiaomi’s software on it. There’s no speaker (receiver), sensors not a front facing camera at the top. While this still a leaked image, it could be a prototype device of designs to come from the Chinese smartphone maker. The design looked impressive, but Sharp did not sell these handsets globally. Moreover, while it certainly looked breathtaking, the Aquos Crystal 2 lacked the raw power, which may have been one of the reasons as to why it did not do too well. The phone was exclusive to Japan’s Softbank with the earlier Aquos Crystal being exclusive to Sprint, Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile. [caption id=“attachment_341454” align=“aligncenter” width=“640”] ![Xiaomi Mi Note 2 leaked Weibo side top](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Xiaomi-Mi-Note-2-leaked-Weibo-side-top.jpg) Image: Xiaomi Today (via Weibo)[/caption] Various leaks suggest that the phone will have flagship hardware. Xiaomi is expected to toss in a Snapdragon 821 SoC (the same one that’s on the Google Pixel ) and an option of either 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage and 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage. We’re also expecting to see an 8MP front camera and 13MP rear camera. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun reportedly announced on Weibo that the Mi Note 2 was already in mass production and that the phone would go on sale in mid-November in China. PhoneArena suggests that specifications aside, there will also be two variants of the phone with different designs. One will feature a 5.7-inch, curved, dual-edge screen with a resolution of 2K (2560×1440) and the other with a 5.15-inch Full HD screen. PhoneArena also suggests that one of these variants will have a 12MP rear camera and that no dual-camera is planned. Update: ![Mi-note-2-invite](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Mi-note-2-invite.jpeg) We’ve just bumped upon an invite for the Mi Note 2. Xiaomi is said to be hosting an event in China at the Peking University Gymnasium on 25 October. The invite clearly says Note 2 in the middle, so no doubts about that. Xiaomi has also announced that Hong Kong-based actor Tony Leung will be the host for the event.
