Xiaomi Mi Mix 2: Here is how the Mi Mix 2 compares with competition

Chinese smartphone and electronics maker Xiaomi has launched the much anticipated Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 at a launch event on 11th September 2017. The Mi Mix 2 packs a 5.99-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio.

The company made the bottom chin narrower than the one in the original Mi Mix. Xiaomi has worked to improve the second generation of the Mi Mix after introducing the ‘bezel-less’ design as part of the concept phone almost a year back.

Xiaomi redesigned its piezoelectric ceramic acoustic technology to add a speaker grill and ultrasonic proximity sensor at the top side of the device. The sound resonates through the metal frame and it is delivered through the front display. The company has also added a sound hole on the top of the device along with a ‘Sound guiding tube’ for the membrane speaker to improve the loudness of the sound. Mi Mix 2 sports an ‘ultra slim’ aluminium frame to ensure that the device is steady and durable.

Xiaomi has also improved on the design to ensure that the Mi Mix 2 packs a ‘four-sided curved ceramic body’ making the device feel durable and unique. Moving to the camera, the 18K gold-plated decorative camera rim has made a return. On the hardware side of the camera, the Mi Mix 2 packs a Sony IMX386 image sensor with 1.25um large pixels and 4-axis image stabilisation for better low light performance. Moving to the connectivity side of the device, Mi Mix 2 packs 6 modes and a total of 43 network bands. Xiaomi has also released Mi Mix 2 Special Edition made from ‘single piece of ceramic’.

The ‘bezel-less’ concept is not a new and different thing now as almost all smartphone makers are moving their flagships to a bezel-free design. But, Xiaomi is trying to improve on something that they introduced to the market. The company emphasised that this year, the Mi Mix 2 is all about improving the design and overall experience for the consumers.

With the launch of Mi Mix 2, we thought that it is a right time to pit the device against its competition in the market. So, we selected iPhone 7 Plus , Samsung Galaxy S8 **+**, OnePlus 5 , HTC U11 , and LG V30 . The reason to selected these smartphones is that all these devices are considered as 2017 flagship for the company.

All these smartphones are considered flagships from competitor smartphone makers. Bear in mind that we’re still not done testing some of these smartphones, so we’re currently comparing them only on paper. A real world test should follow soon.
