Xiaomi Mi Max images confirm metal back and fingerprint reader

The new images of the Xiaomi Mi Max reveals a design similar to the Mi Note, but this time we also get our first glimpse of the smartphone's back.

After plenty of rumours and leaked images, they are finally here. We are talking about the first official images of the long-rumoured Xiaomi Mi Max phablet that is said to pack in a massive 6.4 inch display. The same was spotted by a Weibo user on Chinese communications certification authority, TENAA's website and was first reported by techupdate3. The leak reveals not just the smartphone's design but also some of its hardware specifications as well.

We recently saw a live image of the Mi Max phablet that revealed its abnormally large display that crams up the rest of the components in its thinner than usual bezels. The new images reveals a similar design in the gold variant, but this time we also get our first glimpse of the smartphone's back. As expected, the back is completely made of metal and looks similar to the 3D Glass design on both the Mi Note and the recently launched Mi 5. Also visible on the back is a circular fingerprint reader and the 'Mi' logo.

The same source also reported the phablet's specifications. These would include a 6.44-inch Full HD display and a not-so-flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 chipset. The SoC is paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage for the base model. The higher-priced model will come with 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage. As for the other details there is a 16MP rear camera and 5MP front-facing unit.

Connectivity options include a 4G LTE radios, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1. Powering it all is the 4000mAh battery. Bonus details include the price tag of this budget phablet that is said to be Yuan 1,299 (approximately Rs 13,300). Yes, now that specifications have been revealed, it is safe to say that the Mi Max will be a budget device thanks to low resolution screen (for a 6.4-inch display) and its Snapdragon 650 chipset, that is also currently available onboard the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. More details including any phablet specific features will be revealed on launch day that is scheduled to take place on May 10.
